A blocked drain in Ryde
George and Jenna came back from their holidays feeling refreshed and relaxed. They had spent the last one month holidaying in the Caribbean. It had been a beautiful trip and they were happy to be home.
They had returned late last evening after a celebratory dinner at a friend’s place. As soon as they had reached home, both of them had hit the bed due to sheer exhaustion.
This morning, the first thing on their ‘To Do’ list was washing their clothes. There were three loads to wash and the washing machine was hard at work since morning.
Having loaded the washing machine for the last time that day, Jenna went to use the bathroom. To her horror, she saw that when she flushed the toilet, the water came up dangerously before settling down.
No sooner had she used the sink, the next piece of disaster struck. Dirty water was backing up from the bathtub. Although the water went back down after a while, it left a dirty green crud.
Jenna knew they were having atroubles with the drains and a blockage had occured.
George tried plunging the bathtub drain, the sink and the toilet. Nothing came up. Even so, the water in the toilet continued to rise to dangerous levels after they flushed it.
So, they decided to try the snake. George tried inserting the snake but it invariably got stuck somewhere down the line.
After an hour of snaking to unblock the drain, they decided that it was better to call in the regular plumber. Sure, they would lose some money but DIY plumbing was proving to be too much work.
When they called the plumber, they were in for a surprise. The plumber from Ryde was in their neighbourhood and he could get to their place in fifteen minutes, if they were available. They were more than happy with that!
Fifteen minutes later, the plumber arrived at their doorstep with a water jetter and a video camera. He inserted the camera and peered inside the drain. The picture was vague but it seemed like a tree root had grown into their drain. That could be a possibility because they had some evergreen trees on that side of the house.
The plumber began his work. After 40 minutes of hard work, he managed to bring up the errant tree root. It must have been at least 10-12 feet long and almost as thick as the drain pipe.
Once again, George was pleased with himself for finding a plumber who knew their job so well. These plumbers were the number one plumbers in the area and they serviced clients in Denistone, Meadow Bank, Gladesville and Putney. It was plain to see why they had so many satisfied customers!
