A plumbing emergency in Ryde
“Oh my gosh, Ben, what happened to you?” Neena almost screamed when she found her step dad lying on the floor of the toilet with blood oozing from his head.
65 year old Ben had lost consciousness. He was a big man, so she had to struggle to get him on his back. She sprinkled a little water on his face before calling emergency. Fortunately, he came round almost immediately.
“What happened?” Neena asked the dazed old man gently.
Ben had been in the bathroom shaving, when he had blacked out suddenly. The next thing he remembered was lying on the uncomfortably wet floor with his head in Neena’s lap! The blood was from a surface wound on his chin where he had cut himself with the razor as he fell. He had a small bump on the back of his head. Other than that, he was in good shape. Which was more than could be said about the condition of the bathroom.
When Ben fell, he had somehow landed against the side of the commode and a part of it had broken on impact. That meant they would have to replace the commode immediately.
As Ben’s small house in Ryde had only one bathroom, it was almost impossible for him to stay there until they had the commode replaced. Besides, his fluctuating blood sugar level had Neena worried. So, she suggested he stay with her for a while.
“No arguments, Ben. You’re staying with me and that’s that!” She said firmly when Ben tried to wiggle out of it.
Once he had settled in, Neena focused on getting the broken commode repaired.
It was a good thing that Neena stayed in West Ryde because she knew exactly which plumber to call for this plumbing emergency. Her expert plumbers would do the work but she did not know how many days it would take to change the commode. If Ben became restless, she couldn’t hold him back. She wanted this finished before that.
The Ryde plumbers came for an inspection and made an estimate for the repair work that very afternoon. Fortunately, they did not have to break the tiling in the entire bathroom. The commode was on one corner and the tiles beneath the commode had been of a different shade from the very beginning. So, they only had to change the tiles in that tiny portion.
Neena was quite happy with the estimate that the Ryde plumber had given. She knew from past experience that the plumber would assist her in buying high quality hardware for the toilet. She also knew that once she gave them the job, she would not have to worry about timely completion. Just as she had expected, the Ryde plumber purchased the new commode the new tiles for her and fixed it within a day. This was a relief as it speeded up the job and greatly reduced the burden on Neena.
Neena was delighted with the finished job. The bathroom looked as good as new.
She had been keeping the repair work a secret from Ben as she wanted to surprise him. Yes, thanks to her emergency plumber, her Father’s Day surprise for Ben would be a roaring success. She just knew it!
